CHINA TO BE COUNTRY OF HONOUR FOR
NEW ZEALAND’S TOP SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
Show Me Shorts Film Festival is delighted to announce that China is their 2025 Country of Honour. They are now calling for entries via the Film Freeway submission platform.
Show Me Shorts is Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading international short film festival, and is considered one of the top 20 short film festivals globally. They deliver an entertaining and thoughtful experience for audiences, with more than 100 screenings taking place in 40 cinemas and community venues nationwide each October. The festival also includes a number of industry events, panel discussions and workshops for filmmakers.
Each year, Show Me Shorts chooses a new country or region to spotlight. Festival Director Gina Dellabarca says, “The Country of Honour programme highlights the talent and creativity of filmmakers and shares insights into their rich culture. We are delighted to delve into the Chinese screen industry through the curation process, and discover unique stories that reflect a modern Chinese experience. Through the Country of Honour programme, we hope to build new connections between filmmakers in our two countries, and forge greater cultural understanding.”
Show Me Shorts is a competitive, Oscar ® qualifying and BAFTA qualifying film festival. This means they provide filmmakers with a pathway toward national and international recognition at the highest level. All the Chinese films selected will be eligible for the Best International Film award, which is Oscar® qualifying, as well as the People's Choice audience award.
Festival programmers are expecting to receive hundreds of Chinese entries, from which they will select a collection of seven short films. The aim is to demonstrate the breadth of talent in modern China's creative filmmaking industry. The films will be screened three times - in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch – during October. They will also be available online at Show Me Shorts On Demand for three days. The On Demand festival is geo-blocked outside of New Zealand.
Submitted short films must be between two and 20 minutes long, and made within the last two years. They can be any genre, including drama, documentary, comedy, science fiction and animation. Show Me Shorts does not tend to play experimental films. For filmmakers who are selected, travel costs are not paid for by the festival, but an invitation letter will be provided, as well as tickets to attend festival events.
The final extended deadline is 1 July. An early-bird pricing discount is available until 1 April at Film Freeway.

票选。据主办方预估,今年将收到数百部中国参赛作品,最终精选的7部佳作将于十月
在奥克兰、惠灵顿、基督城三地巡回展映,并通过Show Me Shorts点播平台进行为期
三天的新西兰境内线上展播。

Show Me Shorts Film Festival Trust is a charitable organisation that exists to connect audiences with short films and share New Zealand short films with the world. The resources needed to achieve this work are provided by a small number of staff and contractors, supported by dedicated volunteers, screen industry partners, and valued corporate sponsors. Through the running of the festival across the nation, distributing New Zealand short films, and providing industry development events, Show Me Shorts plays an integral role in seeding the success of New Zealand’s screen industry.
