About Us

Show Me Shorts is Aotearoa New Zealand’s top international short film festival.

We are a competitive Academy Awards® and BAFTA accredited festival that screens in more than 35 cinemas nationwide. Our mission is to connect New Zealand audiences with short films and share New Zealand short films with the world.

Our History

When film loving co-founders Katrin Hagen, Kate Nicholson, Gina Dellabarca, and Tamara Liebman noticed that New Zealand excelled in making short films, but there was no easy way to see them, they decided to change that. In November 2006 the first festival was launched at Academy Cinemas Auckland, over three days. Many people attended and the festival was a hit.

From humble beginnings, Show Me Shorts has expanded every year, forging connections and partnerships across the industry. We seek out top short films, collaborate with local cinemas, raise funds for a world-class festival, and advocate for the short film community.

Today, we host more than 120 screenings annually, with Opening Night celebrations in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, an awards event, and a range of professional development programmes for filmmakers.
