Teaching Plan for when a camera is available.
These modules are designed to help facilitate learning in children 7-12 years old. They are broken down into day long exercises.
-
1. Introduction
These modules are designed to provide teachers with a comprehensive, hands-on guide to introducing filmmaking in the classroom. By following this structured approach, teachers can inspire creativity, collaboration, and storytelling skills in their students, giving them a chance to explore roles both in front of and behind the camera.
-
2. Suggested schedule
The resources offer practical tools and activities that make filmmaking accessible, fostering a love for the art form and empowering students to bring their ideas to life. This schedule helps teachers understand the rate at which students can grasp these concepts.
-
3. Story, script & casting
Students are introduced to the workshop, covering housekeeping, filmmaking basics, and personal introductions. They learn about story structure, read scripts, and cast roles. Lists for props, costumes, and set dressing are started.
-
4. Pre-production & learning the equipment
Roles are assigned, and the group finalizes prop, costume, and set lists while scouting locations. Students check the available materials and familiarize themselves with the equipment. Homework includes finding missing items and actors learning lines.
-
5. Learning how to shoot the film & planning the shoot
Students learn about camera techniques, create a filming schedule, and rehearse scenes. Shot lists are prepared, and the team plans for the upcoming shoot days. Final props and costume checks are made.
-
6. Shooting the film
The first day of shooting begins with rotating teams for rehearsals and filming. The director reviews footage, and any missing props or costumes are addressed. Batteries are charged, and actors prepare for the next day.
-
7. Editing the film
Students complete the second day of shooting and wrap up production. Borrowed items are returned, equipment is packed away, and students are introduced to editing. The workshop concludes with certificates and group photos.
