CALL FOR SCRIPTS

Show Me Shorts is currently on the hunt for five short film scripts to license. The screenplays will be used as blueprints for our Filmmaking Holiday Programme, where we guide groups of upper primary aged Auckland school children to make a short film.

This is a paid opportunity for writers to sell your work and have it made into one or more short films. We are offering a fee of $500 plus gst to purchase the non-exclusive rights to use the script for up to ten years.

Must haves for the scripts

Length - The films we make will not be longer than seven minutes, so we are ideally looking for scripts between 2-7 pages/minutes long.

Characters - There are 20 students in each group, and ideally there will be at least a background extra role for each student, but it's fine to just have a few lead actors in the story. The students in each group include a mix of ethnicities and gender. The age range is 8-12 years.

Locations - The scripts will be shot at schools or community centres. These will likely include Parnell District School, Devonport Community Centre, Mangere Memorial Hall and Lopdell House. So ideally the setting should be things like interiors of school classrooms or halls, foyers of theatres, stages, playgrounds, and sports courts. Some of the locations also include gardens and/or views of our maunga, and the Waitemata harbour.

Genre - We will accept all story genres including drama, comedy, action, sci-fi and thriller. We do not currently have the tools to create animated shorts, or anything that requires VFX. No violence or profanity will be permitted.

To apply, fill out our Jotform here by 21 February. Our team will choose the five screenplays we think will be most useful for this programme. We will send a draft contract to the writers to review at that time and make sure they are happy with the terms before signing. Any questions, email marketing@showmeshorts.co.nz.

Below are some of the shorts that have been made with previously licensed scripts as part of this programme:
